Simple Pendulum Dowsing

Pendulums have been used in the dowsing process to locate precious metals, water, and energy centers (such as vortices and ley lines). These simple tools have been used by physicians to diagnose allergies and other ailments and are often used to determine the sex of unborn babies. Pendulum use is officially considered to be a science known throughout Europe as Radiesthesia.

Pendulums are also used as a simple and accurate divination system. A typical pendulum consists of an object at the end of a string or chain. Pendulums can be as simple as a string with a ring on the end or a simple pendant on a chain. You can also find pendulums made from a variety of materials; many of which include crystals, chains, string, or leather thongs. Plumb Bob or plummet are terms for the end of the pendulum that swings freely. The plummet can be made from crystal, wood, metals, or glass and come in a variety of sizes and shapes, be sure this is balanced and doesn’t hang lopsided or heavier on one side.

When choosing, or making a pendulum it is important to choose one you are comfortable with. Depending on the way you intend to use your pendulum you may want to have a chambered or hollow plummet, which allows you to use Essential or Magickal oils, or inscriptions in your divination process.

Image result for simple pendulum chartWhen using your pendulum for dowsing it is important to determine he method you will use to understand the results you are getting. When using a pendulum for divination you can either use a divining chart, which will typically have an area where the pendulum will swing for specific responses such as; Yes, NO, Maybe, letters, numbers, astrological signs, etc. These divination charts can be created or purchased to be broad in their ability to answer questions or be specialized. The questions you ask the pendulum will need to direct and have simple answers that can be found on the chart you are using.

If you choose to use your pendulum without a divination chart it is important to determine the direction your pendulum will swing when responding to Yes, NO, maybe, or irrelevant. I have found that these will be different for each session and I will start by asking the pendulum to show me how it will swing for each of these answers. Once I’ve determined how the pendulum will swing, I will ask a question I know is true and false to be sure the pendulum is tuned to my energy. The next step in my process is to ask the pendulum if it is willing to answer questions now. If you receive any answer other than yes you should not attempt to force the pendulum to answer, because you will likely receive inaccurate responses.

Now that you’ve determined how your pendulum will be working with you it is time to ask questions. Be sure you only ask yes/no questions and if you do not receive the anticipated answer, it will only confuse the energy to ask the same question multiple times. There are times when your pendulum will respond with the movement that indicates your question is irrelevant or may not swing. In these instances, it is best to rephrase the question or move on to another question entirely. Your question may not be important in the greater scheme of things (though you might not recognize this at the time of divination).

For more information on dowsing you can find books dedicated to pendulum dowsing or a quick internet search will result in many websites dedicated to this form of divination.

Do not use dowsing for medical information as a replacement for diagnosis or treatment from a medical practitioner.

Natural Air Freshener with doTERRA Essential Oils

Image result for natural air freshener diy

Commercial air fresheners can bring many unwanted toxins and chemicals into your home. There are, however, completely safe and natural alternatives for keeping your air fresh. We came up with a quick and simple tutorial to make your own air freshener that has only two ingredients—baking soda and essential oils! Read on to get started, and your home will be smelling fresh in no time.

Ingredients:
1 small Mason jar with band
1/4 cup baking soda
5-6 drops of your favorite essential oil
Small piece of fabric

Directions:
  1. Put 1/4 cup baking soda into a small jar. Add 5-6 drops of your favorite doTERRA essential oil or blend.
Recommended Essential Oils: Balance, Cassia, Geranium, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemon, doTERRA On Guard®, Purify, or Wild Orange.
  1. Put piece of fabric on jar and seal with band.
Editor's Tip: Add some style by drawing a design onto a piece of paper and then securing the design on top of the lid with a strong tape around the edges and poking holes along the pattern.
  1. Place jar in an area you would like to keep smelling fresh. This could include: the bathroom, near a garbage can, in your closet, near your dirty clothes, etc. Shake the jar often to activate the fresh scent.
  2. If scent starts to fade, simply add 2-3 drops of essential oil to jar.

This DIY recipe is provided by doTERRA international, but you can take a simple recipe like this and adjust it to fit your needs... I use just baking soda and oils as a carpet freshener...Make enough of this to fill more than one room freshener jar and put enough in a shaker jar to sprinkle on your carpets.. after you've vacuumed place the room freshener jars in each of your rooms to help with continued freshness...

Weekly Tarot Insights Oct 31st - Nov 6th 2016

This weeks Tarot Insights is a day later than normal, yesterday was Samhain (Halloween for those who don't celebrate Samhain) and I spent the day in contimplation and rebuilding my ancestor altar and creating a hanfasting/marriage altar.

The energies this week start out with a contimplation of child hood and days gone by. Midweek we move into a greater understanding of where we, as individuals best fit into our world. the end of the week we see some pessamism creeping in to our thoughts about security and resources.

Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead- Sugar Skulls and the American Bandwagon

Image result for day of the dead ofrendas
Graveside Ofrenda
Having grown up Catholic, I never heard of Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead until I move to southern Arizona, which seemed strange to me that Catholics didn’t celebrate the same things in the same ways everywhere (I was young and not very worldly). I moved here in 1985 with my family and even then this was not a celebration I observed, until I married into a Hispanic family. This is when I learned of this Hispanic/Catholic celebration of ancestor remembrance celebrated on November 1st and/or 2nd. Often this celebration involved cleaning and decorating the graves of family members. Along with this, there would be a meal… often beans rice, Barbacoa de res (beef barbeque), potato salad, salsa, tortillas, and (of course) lots of beer. Sometimes family members would prepare meals which had been the favorite of one of their deceased family members.

As a student of Anthropology I learned many cultures both past and current venerate their ancestors in some way or other at this time of the year (mid Autumn). It is thought the celebrations were typically feast and rituals in remembrance of those who died previously, many in the previous winter, due to freezing temperatures, old age and sometimes lack of food. The winter was often harsh and claimed the very old, very weak, and the young if there wasn’t sufficient food and warmth to see the group through the winter. It’s my opinion, the celebration of ancestors during this time of year was a way finishing up any remaining harvests, slaughter domestic livestock (which might now make it through the winter), and start hunts, which would see the group through the coming winter. It was also a time to ask their deities and ancestors for guidance and protection through the coming winter season. I’m sure they also were very aware there would be those who would not see another celebration in this life, because they were not strong or well enough to make it through the winter.

File:Procesión prehispánica del Día de Muertos.JPG
Vestimenta festiva prehispánica para celebrar la víspera del Día de Muertos.

Modern day celebrations of Dia de los Muertos are a combination of the ancient celebrations of the ancestors (similar to what I’ve described above) of the indigenous peoples of Mexico, Central and South America aa well as the Catholic Holidays All souls and All Saints days. It was common for the Catholic Missionaries to incorporate the customs of the locals when they entered a new place. It made conversion to the church easier if the customs of the Church appeared to be similar to those they were converting.

Today's celebrations include skeletons, sugar skull candies, and other ofrendas (offerings). Ofrendas are commonly altars where the living relatives of the dead bring and share a meal amongst each other, they will leave a plate of food on the altar as a meal for their ancestors, because it is believed the veil between the world of the living and the dead is at its thinnest at this time of year, allowing those who have died previously the opportunity and ability to visit this world. In fact, it is it believe the gates to heaven are left open on Oct 31 at midnight and algelitas (little angels) or the spirits of all deceased children are allowed to visit their families for a day.

Sugar Skull Candies
In the last several years I’ve noticed that many people are celebrating Dia de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead whether they are from these cultures or not. I think there are a couple of reasons this is happening. The first is there are many people who are no longer practicing the religions of their childhoods or may not have been raised in a particular spiritual path, and they are feeling a draw to something greater than themselves and have attempted to adopt something from another culture without really knowing why. Another thing I think plays a big role in people adopting this holiday is the commercialization of the celebration, making this particular day no different than Halloween, Christmas or Easter; all of which were adopted from pre-Christian cultures and adapted to the Church and later commercialized in today’s world. Thus the American Bandwagon... we all seem to be jumping on one or another, and in this instance it is a Spiritual Celebration that ought to be respected.

Let’s not all jump on the American Bandwagon and adopt a celebration without first taking the time to understand what it is, second honoring the culture you are borrowing it from. This is a big deal! It’s not ok to run out and buy sugar skulls, or paint yourself up like one if you aren’t actually honoring your ancestors. I know they look soo cool, but it’s not cool to borrow another’s spirituality without knowing it and living it.

My suggestion is to learn about your ancestors and their practices, you just might find out they had rituals and practices to celebrate their ancestors during this time of year. You might also find the traditions of your ancestors were very similar to the celebrations of other cultures.

What is an Essential Oil?

If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells, essential oils protect plants and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and their beautiful fragrance, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices.
But what exactly is a volatile aromatic compound? In short, these compounds are small organic molecules that tend to change quickly from their solid or liquid state to a gas at room temperature. They are called volatile because they change state quickly. When you first open a bottle of essential oil, you instantly notice that the aroma is potent and you can smell it typically even from some distance. The physical and chemical properties of the volatile aromatic compounds that compose essential oils allow them to quickly move through the air and directly interact with the olfactory sensors in the nose. Such unique properties make essential oils ideal for applications inclusion in aromatherapy – using these compounds from plants to help maintain a healthy mind and body – as well as other applications. The type of volatile aromatic compounds present in an essential oil determines both the oil’s aroma and the benefits it offers.
Over 3,000 varieties of volatile aromatic compounds have been identified to date. The nature of an essential oil varies from plant to plant, within botanical families, and from species to species. The delicate ratio of aromatic constituents found in any given essential oil are what make it unique and give it specific benefits.
Even with pure essential oils the composition of the oil can vary depending on the time of day, season, geographic location, method and duration of distillation, year grown, and the weather, making every step of the production process a critical determinant of the overall quality of the essential oil product.
Essential oils can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used as single essential oils or in complex essential oil blends depending on user experience and desired benefit. Want to learn how to use essential oils? Autumn Equinox 2016

Growing up in Wisconsin, I always kinda took the turning of the seasons for granted. There were distinct differences between one season and the next. Autumn was always my favorite time of year, the end of working in the huge farm garden and the beginning of a new school year were all closely associated with Autumn for me. The crisp feel and smell of the morning air, and the beauty of the landscape always made me feel as if this was the most magickal time of the year, followed closely by winter.

I remember the vibrant colors of the Maple, Oak (both red and white), Elm, and Linden trees, especially the Maples. The landscape was a cacophony of color and I remember thinking some magickal painter had splashed the landscape with reds, yellows, violets, and oranges; so many hues, I could scarcely take it all in without loosing my breath.

Later in the season I was able to see past the brilliance of the trees and the  rich earthy scent of the freshly turned fields and the fallen leaves on the woodland floor would catch my attention and bring me to a secret place of adventure while I rode my horse or hunted Squirrel and rabbits with my brother. This was our time it was when we could be best friends and no one had to know we actually liked each other.

When I reached high school this became the time when my friends and I went to football games and experimented with drinking brandy and beer or learned what it was like to share our first kiss with the boy or girl crush of the time.

This is what I think of when I think of the Autumn Equinox, and yet I've lived in southeastern Arizona for longer than I lived in Wisconsin. Our family left right after I graduated high school in 1985. This year I decided to really look around my world and see or feel what the Equinox means to me in the High Desert of Arizona.

This is what I've discovered in my contemplation today. There is no vibrant color change in the trees; not much in the way of reds, oranges, or violets, later there will be some yellows and then bare trees. There is no smell of musty earth, but the mornings are crisp and you can smell Autumn on the air. In the High Desert, especially along the San Pedro River, often the mornings will be heavy with fog and there will be an air of mystery and magic.

Today for the first time I really noticed the full seeds on the grasses that have grown all summer in the desert, and I heard the sound the drying blades and seed made as the wind rustled through them and I understood it is time to find balance in my life. After all this is the Equinox, the second time this year where we will experience equal amounts of night and day. Having recently quit my day job and refocused my energy on Madame Molly's I wondered; is the seeds I planted this last Spring would be sufficient to nourish the business and sustain it through the winter and on to next Spring when I can replant the seeds left over from this harvest.

While you are celebrating the seasonal change in your own way today, I hope you will find that the seeds (both real and symbolic) that you planted last Spring and tended through the Summer have provided you with a bountiful harvest this Autumn. I also hope you take this time to reflect on the areas of your life where you have either created balance or need to find equilibrium.
